What Does Territory Mapper Do?

In simple terms, Territory Mapper allows you to group map units (ZIP Codes, State, Counties, etc.) together to create custom groups of areas. How Have People Used it?

Here are some of the different ways people have used Territory Mapper:

• A Sales Administrator that needed to realign territories for her national sales force used Territory Mapper to map all the current territory definitions and print national level maps as well as maps of individual territories. After careful review of the maps with the National Sales Manager, she then used Territory Mapper to interactively realign the current territories and print final maps and reports for the National Sales Manager to distribute at the annual sales meeting.

• A manufacturer needed to set up contracts with its distributors across the nation to represent its products. Each distributor was required to sign a contract with the manufacturer that described in detail the territory that they agreed to cover. Territory Mapper was used to map and track each Distributor territory by County. In addition, maps created by Territory Mapper along with detailed reports were included with each contract as an attachment to prevent any uncertainty in the territory definitions.

• A start-up company needed to set up ZIP Code defined franchise territories to sell its products. Each territory needed to have a minimum of 100,000 households. In designing the territories they needed to ensure that there were no overlaps or gaps in the territory definitions. Territory Mapper was used to set up and track the areas that were already sold or under contract. It was then used to help design and sell new franchise areas.

• A company that distributes sporting goods used Territory Mapper to set up special "Fishing Zones" around the country to help identify the correct mix of products to supply their stores in a particular area. For example, they set up a “South Coastal Salt Water” fishing zone which will be shipped different merchandise than the “Mountain Freshwater/Trout” fishing Zone in the Rocky Mountain States. Additional Zones of a similar nature are currently being set up to help in the distribution of their hunting supply line across the country.

• A catalog nursery company used Territory Mapper to set up planting zones that are used to help identify what catalogs of plants to mail out to various ZIP Codes. The ZIP Code defined territories are also useful in determining when to ship items based on the last expected frost date in various parts of the country.

• A national consumer products company uses Territory Mapper to keep track of their advertising campaigns around the country. They enter areas by 5-digit ZIP Code that have been selected for a particular advertisement to ensure that areas are not overlapping or duplicated for the next ad campaign.
